Our addition work

Frequently asked questions

How does a home addition get started?

It starts with a free estimate at your home. We talk through what you need the space to do, look at how an addition would tie into your existing house and lot, and provide a written estimate for the work. That first conversation also covers the big-picture items, like permits and how the new space will match the character of your home.

How long does a home addition take?

Additions vary with size and complexity, and most take a few months of construction once permits are in place and work begins. Foundation, framing, roofing, and tying into the existing home all take time before the interior finishes start. We give you a realistic schedule for your specific addition before construction begins, and we keep you updated as it progresses.

Do home additions require permits and plans?

Yes. Additions require building permits, and they generally require drawings, because your city will review things like setbacks, lot coverage, and how the structure ties into the existing home. We coordinate the permit process as part of managing the project and walk you through what your city requires during the estimate.

Can we stay in our home while an addition is built?

In many cases, yes. Much of the early work, like the foundation and framing, happens outside your current living space. There will be a stage where the addition is opened up to the existing home, and we plan that tie-in carefully to keep your home secure and weather-tight. We talk through what to expect at each stage before work begins.

Will the addition look like it belongs with our home?

That is the goal on every addition we build. Roofing, siding, and exterior finishes are selected to integrate with the character of your existing home, so the new space reads as part of the house rather than something stuck onto it. Inside, we match the flow and finishes to the rooms it connects with.

Who builds the addition?
